ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

What is a Wight Lady Cocktail?

A White Lady cocktail is a classic cocktail that dates back to the early 20th century. It is typically made with gin, triple sec (orange liqueur), and lemon juice. The White Lady cocktail is known for its light and citrusy flavour profile, with a balanced sweetness and tartness.

The White Lady is a refreshing and elegant cocktail that has stood the test of time. It is a favourite among gin enthusiasts and cocktail enthusiasts alike. The drink has also inspired variations and adaptations over the years, with some bartenders adding additional ingredients like egg white or simple syrup to enhance the flavour and texture.

History of the Cocktail…..

The White Lady cocktail is a classic cocktail that dates back to the early 1900s. Its exact origin is disputed, with some attributing its creation to Harry MacElhone, a bartender at Ciro's Club in London, while others credit it to Harry Craddock, head bartender at The Savoy Hotel's American Bar.

The cocktail gained popularity in the 1920s and 1930s during the Prohibition era in the United States. The White Lady is believed to have been originally made with equal parts gin, triple sec, and lemon juice. Over time, the recipe has been modified by bartenders, with some adding egg white or sugar syrup to create a smoother and slightly sweeter flavour.

The name "White Lady" is said to have been derived from the white appearance of the cocktail, which is achieved by shaking the ingredients vigorously with ice before straining into a glass.

The White Lady cocktail experienced a resurgence in popularity in the 1980s with the revival of classic cocktails and the growing interest in mixology. It has since become a staple of many cocktail menus around the world and is appreciated for its balance of flavours and refreshing taste.

Today, the White Lady continues to be enjoyed by cocktail enthusiasts and is often customised and adapted by different bartenders to delight their customers.
